Stretching before running

This article mentioned in a NYT blog highlights the latest research into stretching before running. It was a comprehensive study that concluded that static stretching had proved to be a wash in terms of protecting against injury. It “neither prevented nor induced injury when compared with not stretching before running,” the study’s authors concluded, raising the obvious corollary, so why in the world do so many of us still stretch?

The BodyRehab take on it has historically been that static stretching can do more harm than good sue to the often induced 'stretch reflex'. Take a look and decide for yourselves.
