Jebb & Clarke gain muddy wins

North West CycloCross Brockhole Vistor Centre, Sunday 8 November 2009.

CycloCross was welcomed back to the Lake District after an absence of many years on Sunday 8th November, staging a round in the North West CycloCross Series. The event was billed as the most scenic CycloCross venue in the country and it did not fail to deliver with a beautiful setting on the shore of Lake Windermere, surrounded by natural woodland in all its Autumnal glory.

Heavy rain on the Saturday gave way to beautiful blue skies on Sunday but made sure that the going would be wet and testing. Teams came prepared with full jet wash facilities, and the lead riders exchanged their bikes in the pits every lap due to the heavy mud.

Its was local CycloCross star Rob Jebb, WHEELBASE.co.uk/Cannondale who provided an awesome display of power and technique, leading from the very first circuit and lapping everyone apart from the second and third place riders in the Senior Male race. It was also the first outing for Sue Clarke, who joins Jebb in the distinctive WHEELBASE.co.uk/Cannondale livery and she did not disappoint with a convincing win in the Senior Women’s Category. Even The BodyRehab's own Graham Theobald ventured out with a 32nd place finish !

Brockhole is a superb venue for winter CycloCross with a large car parking, full services and a great mix of terrain to build a testing course. The event was given full support from the Lake District National Park with the Chief Executive Richard Leaf presenting the prizes and giving a speech on the importance of such events in the development of the Lake Districts as the UK’s ‘Adventure Capital’.The event would also have not happened without a lot of hard work from Fred Whitton Challenge Organiser Paul Loftus and the dedicated Lakes Road Club.

Jebb, Clarke and the other WHEELBASE.co.uk/CANNONDALE riders head to Mallory Park, Leicestershire on Sunday 15 November 2009 for Round 4 of the National Trophy CycloCross.
